Hmmm I just got my 4 cases of 32"x18" porcelain tile and they are all the same size. They have all been mitered machined cut to complete square. Again I got them at home depot and it all depends on what tile you get.
If I have a 15"x30" black marble tile that is being applied to backerboard on a fireplace facade….how thick should the mortar be applied? 1/2"? 1"?
Mortar lines should be parallel with the short side
Bro looks like he just smoked a fat blunt
Why don't you show us YOUR intall? You should do your showroom. Show us how you install a 48" x 48" tile around a door jam and I also want to see how you install the second row of tile without walking on the first row.
You guys should go into installs. You can show us all how to install 4' tiles and make money.
33% layout does not work. it is 67% on the other side of the joint.
99% of jobs wont meet YOUR standard for flatness. 99% of the subs wont have grinding equipment either. If you do use grinding equipment it is MUCH cheaper to use smaller tile.

tip 1 …. have professionals do it and enjoy your day
No blink guy
I’ve been following custom products information recently and found the tips to be solid.
However the tile installer they showed drew his trowel lines parallel with the long side of the tile instead of perpendicular like they said in a previous video. Not trying to call out just noticing.
My question may sound dumb, but why you have to keep 1/16 flatness, and use 3/4 inch mortar bed?
So i gotta ask there mike manicotti. Yur tip #1 makes no sense 2 fill n the low stops n grind down the high spots. Why not find the highest crown n the floor and then float out 2 level? WTF!!!!!! Anyways aint got time 2 argue so go 2 the trailer n grab the the tile stretcher lets move time is $$$$$$$.
Im a tile setter of ten years now. Take notes on this video, even old timers. Things are changing. This dude knows whats up
which mortar to use for my 14 x 34 inch wall tiles, porcelain?
Blimey mate – where do you get your tiles from! In the UK they are mainly from Turkey and they have very precise dimensions… "Dome in the centre/edges lower"? Really? Amazing! Change your tile supplier.
Easier to stay with carpet and vinyl.
Mr Magoo 😁
The TTMAC standard for coverage is 100 per cent, since if you have any voids, especially in floor tile, there is a risk of cracking due to lack of support. You need full embedment for full support.
haha he said test the tile on a veryflat surface… he didnt say a totally flat surface. what a messed up imperfect world we live in. evrything is imperfect or messed up.
i dont understand when he sed about 80 percent coverage.. you have to cover the whole floor not 80 persent.. i dont get it yet..
Nice!! love this.
I'd rather have pinched tiles and TELL the customer that will happen than do a 3/16" grout line. Forget that.
Dear Mike ,
What is the basic difference between polymer modified thinset & cement mortar . What exactly the chemical reaction taking place in the back of vitrified tiles or porcelain tile for bonding.
What if I'm laying 6 24×24 tiles with no exposed grout lines …?
They will become 48×48 in and 72×72 inch tiles.
perfect for breaking backs!
Darn these designers.
regardless of your install technique i always backbutter
