Long Term Planning is essential to surviving the Long Dark! Whether it be preparing for a loot run, hauling in a fresh kill, or attempting a forge session, it’s important to plan ahead to make sure you’re not caught out unaware. The Long Dark is characterized by two distinct portions or sections in every run: The early-game and the mid-game. The early game is primarily focused on running from shelter to shelter while dodging hostile wildlife and hoping to get a better hat or two, whereas the mid game is defined by you acquiring all the tools and ways to achieve self-sufficiency or the point where you can craft or kill to supplement your current gear. This means having at least a hacksaw, knife, hammer, and weapon, be it the bow or rifle.
But to get to that point, you’re going to need to know what it takes to reach it and set manageable goals so you can get there without getting lost, sidetracked, or killed. That’s where planning comes in. You need to set out your long term goals ahead of time so you can stay true to them to ensure greatest odds of survival!
