Here is what Steam has to say about Subnautica:
Subnautica is an underwater adventure game set on an alien ocean planet. A massive, open world full of wonder and peril awaits you!
You have crash-landed on alien ocean world, and the only way to go is down. Subnautica’s oceans range from sun drenched shallow coral reefs to treacherous deep-sea trenches, lava fields, and bio-luminescent underwater rivers. Manage your oxygen supply as you explore kelp forests, plateaus, reefs, and winding cave systems. The water teems with life: Some of it helpful, much of it harmful.
After crash landing in your Life Pod, the clock is ticking to find water, food, and to develop the equipment you need to explore. Collect resources from the ocean around you. Craft knives, lights, diving gear, and personal water craft. Venture deeper and further form to find rarer resources, allowing you to craft more advanced items.
Build bases on the sea floor. Choose layouts and components, and manage hull-integrity as depth and pressure increase. Use your base to store resources, park vehicles, and replenish oxygen supplies as you explore the vast ocean.
What happened to this planet? Signs abound that something is not right. What caused you to crash? What is infecting the sea life? Who built the mysterious structures scattered around the ocean? Can you find a way to make it off the planet alive?
The ocean teems with life: Use the ecosystem to help you. Lure and distract a threatening creature with a fresh fish, or simply swim as fast as you can to avoid gnashing jaws of roaming predators.
Build a Pressure Re-Active Waterproof Nanosuit, or PRAWN Suit, and explore extreme depth and heat. Modify the suit with mining drills, torpedo launchers, propulsion cannons, grappling hooks and more.
As the sun goes down, the predators come out. The ocean is unforgiving of those caught unprepared in the darkness. Areas that are safe to explore during the day become treacherous at night, but also reveal a beauty that those who hide from the darkness will never see.
Cave systems wind below the sea bed, from dark claustrophobic passages to caverns lit by bio-luminescent life and burning-hot lava flows. Explore the world below the ocean floor, but watch your oxygen levels, and take care to avoid the threats lurking in the darkness.

Build on one of the islands, ain't nothing getting to you there
I've found tiger plants most useful positioned near a sensor room to prevent stalkers from running off with you camera drones. Captively raised stalkers are a great way to gather scrap metal (just don't release them right next to your base, and mark the spot with a beacon). and for personal defense, raise a few crashfish in captivity, grab a few out of the tank when you're going on a run, and use a propulsion cannon to launch the little shits like 40mm grenades, guaranteed to send reaper, and ghost leviathans packing (yet to test it on a sea dragon, I kinda feel like it's too big to care).
You could just put a ton of tiger plants on the roof and then they can’t hit your base because they’ll have to aim strait down
Gasopods are the best defense!
if your game breaks and reapers spawn in the shallows or something your best bet is to use the STASIS RIFLE, and stab them with a thermo knife while they are stunned
Why not just build above water, they can't touch you there
Do creatures even attack bases?
Nice vid, ill make a base in the lost river and in inactive lava zone and other places
went to the island to look for diamonds as supposedly that was the safest spot for newcomers looking for diamonds..my seamoth lost half its health from a large creature with tentacles..needless to say i decided discretion better part of valour..how do we defend against those?
I don't know if this counts but there was a stalker that keep on taking my cameras. I found it taking my second camera and killed it.
Yeah uhhh… you know ampeels ? They zap everything that comes close so I thought I would tame a few and have them protect my base. It works buuuut…it seems ampeels like hugs.
I got zapped a lot.
wait, bases can be attacked?
I’ve never needed defence. What is he doing
This guy sounds almost identical to Jeremy from Geeks and Gamers
Dude the stalkers constantly steal my fucking cameras pisses me off lol
Me: Never uses the foundation
bases in the void
"Base defence methods" dont build next to aggressive biomes
Hey! Love your videos and accent, where’s it from? Do the tigers work on ampeels?
Its creepy to know that your avatar has no head. hopefully they design one with a mask on so its still anonymous
TL;DR How to defend your base: Don't.
they dont attack the reaper because its sammy the saftey reaper
Do the tiger plants defend against crabsquids and warpers?
*Defense (also good vid 🙂 )
Not my base but they use to attack my prawn suit when It was in the moon pool. Bone sharks to be specific
I am legit just watching this so I can commit a mass species murder and place tiger plants all over the void.
And that’s why I build my main base in the safe shallows
There is one point in the game where basedef can be a good thing, when I am in the inactive lava zone i like to build a base at the outer rim where i park my cyclops while walking around in my suit. When you breed as many lava lizard eggs as you can, they will stay at the base and they hunt lava larvae and this will keep your cyclops powered and free of that pests (thermo generator will find enough heat to keep the rest up). Shure, you can remove the cells but thats a hassle and when you want to move the ship you have to set everything up again while removing the larvae. having a save bubble is just comfort.
:] :} 🙂 🙂 ^_^ ^_^
My personal base defense
1) Build base in safe place out of Leviathan's attack range !
2) Build near Kelp Forest or plant creepvines because they drive away Leviathan
3) Use platforms, waterproof doors and reinforcements !
4) Don't build useless corridors, hatch and windows
I have always put my base in dangerous
Areas and got a tiger plant farm to protect myself
Imagine being at the bottom of the ocean and seeings a bunch of giant black eyes staring right at you
Biggest threats to my bases in my experience: gasopods getting stuck under foundations. I’ve had to chase off more than a few who were confused by my bases presence and just started wigging out
While I was watching and going back to my main base it somehow got flooded😂 idk how but the holes where I have the alien containment unit that were with the big fish
If you're trying to set up base in a region close to Reapers, or God forbid Sea Dragons, and your concern is protecting the base….you have bigger fish to fry.
Would’ve been cool if we could have actual base defense modules like stun turrets and stuff that shock creatures and scare them away and eventually kill them if they’re dumb enough to keep attacking your base. I think electrical turrets work with the lore of the game too since guns have been outlawed and stuff. And besides, there could’ve been a gun turret type of thing that maybe Marguerit made herself. I feel like regular laws don’t really apply when you’re surviving on an alien planet
The first one is ingenius tho
Its like using fireflies in a glass as a light
This was something I was worried about as I'm treading into Leavithan territory. Good to know my Base will be ok, just not me or my Seamoth.
Hi
I did not know animals could destroy your base.
DeFeNcE? Btw it is Defense. Just telling’ ya
On my first game i have a base on mushroom forest i heard strange roar i go out and i saw reaper he saw me in dunes alien base and he
Came to my base it was scary he stalked me
7:15 i think one of the leviathans got you
